The exhibtion begins with some of Hirschfeld's earliest works from Selznick Pictures in 1922 and tells the story of Hirschfeld and his art with a wide range pieces up to and including a vivid color work of the Hairspray musical from 2002.

The exhibition is part of the Festival Internacional Cervantino, popularly known as El Cervantino, is a festival which takes place each fall in the city of Guanajuato, located in central Mexico. The Festival, which begin in the mid 20th century, has grown to become one of the most important international artistic and cultural events in Mexico and Latin America, and one of four major events of its type in the world.
